“... the latest in a string of mishaps involving U.S. military aircraft that has fueled public opposition to the U.S. presence there.”

Oh FFS, what was the aircrew supposed to do? We’re they supposed wait till she gave up and ditch their helicopter in a secluded area?

It seems they just want the Americans to leave in general because we be causing shenanigans.

Among recent incidents, a USMC transport helicopter made an emergency landing on an Okinawan beach on Saturday because of a faulty rotor. Earlier, a window fell from a military aircraft onto a school playground.

Such accidents, as well as occasional incidents of crime committed by U.S. service personnel, have fueled opposition to the U.S. presence on the island.

there has been a series of incidents.

This is on top of resentmentthat of 25% of the island being taken up by US bases. The Okinawans feel they carry an unnecessary burden as 75% of all US personel in Japan are based on the tiny island.
